Is Acne Roscea Really
a Form of Adult Acne?
To set the record straight, what is often known
as acne roscea, or adult acne, is really a chronic skin
disease that is mistaken for acne. Roscea is a condition
that is intermittent in nature, but can become
progressively worse over time if not treated. Rosacea
affects fair-skinned adults between the ages of 30 and 60
years of age. It generally affects women more often than
men, but males symptoms tend to be more
severe.
What causes rosacea?
The exact cause of acne rosacea is unknown, but
researchers have a number of theories. Some believe that
rosacea is caused by over-active blood vessels
exacerbated by infection and inflammation. The basis
behind this is that rosacea causes an increased buildup
of heat in the skin, creating a fertile environment for
bacteria to thrive. This is what cause the pimples and
bumps.
Also, tiny mites that are ever-present on
your skin surface may also be a culprit. Men and women
that have roscea have an inordinate amount of these mites
compared to those without rosacea. The jury is still out
on the specific cause, though.
If you believe that you have the initial
symptoms of acne rosacea (long periods of blushed or
flushed cheeks; sensitivity of facial skin; development
of pimples or bumps with visible blood vessels in the
center of your face; red patches that spread to your
cheeks, forehead, chin and neck), see a dermatologist
immediately. When caught in its early stages, a treatment
regimen can be developed that will help control
outbreaks. A recommended rosacea treatment is the
ZENMED® Rosacea Treatment which utilizes a
natural approach of botanicals and healing herbs to soothe the
rosacea affected skin and control flare-ups.
