The Best Teen Acne Cure

Mild acne troubles are usually best addressed by topical ointments. An acne cure for more severe cases may be dealt with in a multitude of ways including oral antibiotics, ointments, and physical treatments such as chemical peels and drainage.

Physical acne treatment procedures must be administered by a dermatologist. Although popping pimples is a form of physical acne treatment, it is ill-advised. It can cause acne-causing bacteria to spread and may lead to scarring. Physical cures done under controlled troubles reduce the chance of risk while providing a positive outcome.

Exfoliation

The top layer of skin can be extracted either chemically or with abrasion. Chemical peels are generally performed using salicylic acid or glycolic acid. These work by removing a microscopic layer of skin cells to unclog pores and remove the buildup of dead cells. The same outcome can be attained by utilizing an abrasive cloth or liquid scrub. Glycolic acid remedies can be applied every two to four weeks over a timeline of about six months. But, salicylic acid medications are milder and are often utilized in over-the-counter treatments. They can be used daily.

Comedo Extraction

Comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) can be removed by a dermatologist employing sterile instruments. An aesthetic cream is applied in the nearby area and then the comedones are extracted using a cylindrical instrument which clears the top to allow the scraping of the blocked skin cells and sebum. The procedure is generally followed by an application of antibiotic cream. It is important not to try this at home. Popping or picking at pimples can encourage infection and permanent scarring.

Drainage

Severe acne can at times cause cysts to form under the skin. These cysts can be painful and disfiguring. Smaller cysts can be treated using cortisone injections which level the lesion in the next few days. Larger cysts might need to be drained and surgically taken away. Drainage can help alleviate the pain associated using cysts and also reduce the chance of scarring. It is conducted in the dermatologists office with sterile instruments. It is crucial not to try to drain cysts by yourself due to the risk of infection which could encourage permanent scarring.

Light Therapy

Light therapy is sometimes applied to battle the acnes bacteria that cause acne. It is particularly useful in treating difficult areas but may have a short term outcome. The procedures unfortunately neglects the production of sebum or the build up of dead skin cells.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is beneficial for taking care of the scars resulting from acne. The therapy can be used for both surface level scarring and deep tissue scarring caused by extreme acne cases. Research is currently being performed on the use of lasers for acne treatment. Many approaches are being tried out - burning away the follical sac which produces the hair; burning away the gland which creates sebum; and making oxygen in the bacteria to wipe out them. It is not yet known if laser acne treatment can result in long lasting damage to the skin.
